MARRIAGE OF A POOR GIRL

Save a poor girls life and give her a head start for a decent marriage life. Marriage is an important part of a Muslim woman’s life, without it any sort of relationship is prohibited by Islam.

Hazrat-e-Aisha says that in the days before Islam there were four ways of marrying. One is that the people do today as well, which is that a man purposes to a woman through her guardian and upon acceptance they get married (united) and the man pays the mahar (a compulsory gift to the wife, anything that has a value).

Second one is that after the lady finishes her period the husband used to send his wife to another man until she became pregnant to have a superior child.

Third one was that less than ten men used to get together and have an intercourse with the woman. When she became pregnant and gave birth to the child she would call all those men and would choose a father for that child and none of the men could deny or refrain from coming to her.

Fourth one is that a lot of men (preferably a lot more than ten men) would have intercourse with a woman, upon becoming pregnant and giving birth to a child she would call all the men who had intercourse with her and a person would be called to decide on the father by looking at the child. No one could refrain from coming or accepting the responsibility of the child.

Islamic marriage gives women the dignity and security they deserve and desire and not to be treated as a ‘lustful tool’. Marriage (relationship) in a dignified way is the right of every honourable woman.

In the early days of Islam, marriage was simple but now adopted cultures and traditional values have made marriage seem such a burden that it has become impossible for poor girls to get married, rather than the boy giving mahar to the girl, the girls family ends up giving a huge dowry which may well be as many times as much than the mahar. When poor families cannot afford lavish celebrations and pay cash and gold in offering, their daughters may as well be single for the rest of their life.
